I remember running my first marathon years ago. It was an amazing, life changing experience! I want to make sure you have the same, if not better, experience, so I thought I’d share some tips that I’ve learned over the years. If you’re running your first marathon, half marathon, or ANY race for that matter, listen to these tips and go out there and run!

  3. Thank You For This! 🙏
First time Marathon (LA Marathon) this weekend… your tips are very helpful. Especially the pooping part

  4. I always hear stuff about keeping cadence around 180 to run more efficiently. To run slower for the first part should I take really short strides and keep the cadence up the whole time or just throw cadence out the window while running slower?

  5. First 30k tomorrow! Wish me luck!
Also i cant wait for my free beer

  6. Love them , ready for my first marathon tomorrow, Houston chevron

  7. Having now done 7 marathons, I wish I had taken in enough carbs on race day to get me to the finish line without a lot of walking. Runners who need 5, 6, 7 or more hours to finish a marathon will need 50-60 grams of carbs per hour. Each packet of gels that we use on long training runs and in running the race will have 20-25 grams of carbs per packet. That works out to 2 gels per hour (for gels with 25 grams of carbs per packet) or 3 gels per hour (for gels with 20 grams of carbs per packet). This is not a BS selling point by the gel companies. Most noobie runners in their first marathon (and also in their really long runs late in the training cycle) seriously underestimate the amount of carbs they need. Your body needs a lot of fuel to run a marathon. Don't kid yourself. If you take chews or blocks for carbs, just check on the nutritional label to see how many grams of carbs that it has. You will also get some carbs from the sports drink that is offered at the aid stations. However, most of these sports drinks will give you only about 3-5 grams of carbs per cup. Not much, but when you are out on course for a really long time, every gram of carb will help you out.
